Table of Content

If you’ve ever wanted to treat your car like a smart device, checking battery levels, locking doors from your phone, or tracking its location right from your home dashboard, Home Assistant makes it possible. And with FiatChamp, you can now integrate your FIAT, Jeep, Ram, Dodge, or Alfa Romeo directly into your smart home ecosystem.

Welcome to the future of connected vehicles, no third-party apps, no extra hardware, just seamless automation between your car and your home.

What Is Home Assistant?

Before we dive in: What is Home Assistant?

Home Assistant is a free, open-source home automation platform that lets you control all your smart devices, from lights and thermostats to security cameras and sensors, from one central hub. Unlike cloud-based systems (like Google Home or Alexa), Home Assistant runs locally on your network, giving you full privacy, control, and customization.

And the best part? It supports add-ons, mini-apps that extend its functionality. That’s where FiatChamp comes in.

Meet FiatChamp: Your Uconnect-Powered Car Integration

FiatChamp is a custom Home Assistant add-on that connects to the Uconnect services used by Stellantis vehicles (FIAT, Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Alfa Romeo). It pulls real-time data from your car and turns it into sensors, switches, and automations inside Home Assistant.

I built this for my own FIAT 500e Icon, and yes, it works flawlessly. But it’s also designed to support other models across the Uconnect family.

Automate Your Car Like a Pro

Imagine:

  • Turning on your car’s preconditioning when you start your morning routine.
  • Getting a notification when your teenager takes the Jeep.
  • Starting charging automatically when solar production peaks.
  • Logging odometer readings to a Google Sheet.

With Home Assistant automations, all of this is possible.

What You Can Do with FiatChamp

Once installed, FiatChamp imports your car’s data as sensors and entities in Home Assistant.

Here’s what you get:

  • Battery Level Monitoring: Perfect for EVs like the FIAT 500e
  • Tire Pressure & Odometer: Track health and usage
  • GPS Location & Zone Detection: Know when your car arrives home or leaves work
  • Home Assistant Zones: Automatically trigger routines when the car enters/exits a zone
  • Remote Commands: Lock/unlock doors, open the trunk, blink lights, start charging, and even turn on HVAC (heating/cooling)
  • Manual Refresh: Force updates for battery status or location
  • Miles/KM Conversion: Switch between units easily
  • Available Remote commands are:
    • "UpdateLocation" (updates gps location of the car)
    • "RefreshBatteryStatus" (refresh battery level %)
    • "DeepRefresh" (same as "RefreshBatteryStatus")
    • "Blink" (blink lights)
    • "ChargeNOW" (starts charging)
    • "Trunk" (open/close trunk lock)
    • "DoorLock" (open/close doors. See: "EnableDangerousCommands" option.)
    • "HVAC" (turn on the temperature preconditioning in the car. the official app does not support turning preconditioning off 😅 See: "EnableDangerousCommands" option.)

All using the same API as the official Uconnect app, so if it shows up there, FiatChamp can (usually) pull it.

What Doesn’t Work (Yet)

  • Eco Reports / Driving Statistics: Not exposed in the API (yet)
  • Real-Time Tracking: The API doesn’t support live GPS streaming
  • Media Controls: No support for volume, radio, or playback

Some features simply aren’t exposed by Fiat’s backend — but that could change in the future.

How to Install FiatChamp (Step-by-Step)

  1. Enable Advanced Mode in your Home Assistant user profile.
  2. Go to Settings > Add-ons > Add-on Store.
  3. Click the three dots → Add Repository → Enter:
    https://github.com/wubbl0rz/FiatChamp
  4. Refresh the page, find FiatChamp, and install it.
  5. Configure your email, PIN, region, and brand.
  6. Let it connect: sensors will appear in your MQTT integration.
Note: You’ll need the official Home Assistant MQTT add-on or an external broker. The add-on auto-connects to your local MQTT server.

For advanced users running Docker standalone, a manual container option is available, but not recommended for beginners.
